The second book in the Chronicles of Prydain see Taran get chosen to participate on a raid to deal a tremendous blow to Arawn, Lord of Annuvin, by stealing the Black Cauldron. His part is to be small but he is growing up and learning that being any part of something like this is an honor not to be taken lightly but of course, he still manages to get his pride pricked along the way. In this story we see him begin to take on more leadership, not just of others, but of himself and learn that what sometimes seems like a huge loss will hurt but friends are the greatest treasure you can possibly have and that there is greater honor in a field well plowed than a field steeped in blood.
