As many of you may know, I have made many online friends in the past almost 8yrs now. One group of women I met online when pregnant with Nico. Recently one of these women gave birth to her second son, Jonathan (great name). Little Jonathan is 3wks old and still has not come home from the hospital and can use all the prayers and positive/healing energy people can send his way. I'm copying and pasting from a mutual friend's blog the whole story of Jen and Jonathan. There is a link at the bottom to PayPal money to our friend Jenny who is organizing GCs for meals, gas cards, and other things to help out during this difficult time. My friend Jen here in town, who has a son Max's age, Jacob, had a baby, named Jonathan on on February 12. He was born full-term and healthy, but after his first night after his birth, his blood sugar dropped and he has been in the NICU ever since. He was transferred to Children's Hospital here to work with specialists as they figured out what was wrong, something with his liver. They finally got a diagnosis, Neonatal Hemochromatosis.

"Neonatal Hemochromatosis (NH) is a rare condition which occurs while the baby is developing in the mother's womb. Toxic levels of iron accumulate in the liver as well as other places in the unborn baby's body. NH looks very much like another condition known as "Hereditary Hemochromatosis" (HH) also known as iron overload disease which is genetic (see www.americanhs.org for more information on Hereditary Hemochromatosis) NH is not considered to be "genetic".

I just feel terrible for them. We know what it is like to get a diagnosis that can be fatal to your baby. I don't want anyone to go through what we went through, and yet, Jen and her family are. They are doing some transfusions and some drug combinations to see if that will help repair his liver, and if not, he may need a liver transplant. Jen is a elem school teacher in the same district as Matt and we have gotten together often (even though we met online) to play with our babies - she was a great support when we were fighting TTTS.

So, we want to help her and her family. We are going to talk to them and see what they need the most, but we may make some meals to be frozen to take to them, help them with gas cards to get to and from the hospital, or just give them money to help with medical expenses, daycare for Jacob or anything else that they need during this time.
