The first in the Mercy Thompson books. Mercy is a mechanic who just happens to be a "walker" not a werewolf but a coyote who doesn't have to change when the moon is full but she was raised by werewolves and has a few friends among the vampires while still managing to stay outside of most of the political games among the different species since she seems to be a species of one. In the opener of the series we see Mercy trying to figure out why strange wolves are around, attacking the local Alpha and kidnapping his daughter. Was his pack in on it? And if they are, where can she turn for help?
I really enjoyed this one. Definitely more mystery stuff going on in an urban fantasy setting but yet not overly gory and nothing heavier than a kiss. The plot moved quickly and the characters were interesting. Looking forward to the next one.
