The third book in the series. In this one, Tom has left for the Academy in Salt Lake City and John is figuring he can take up where his brother left off. He finds out pretty quickly that it's not as easy as all that and he comes to the conclusion that being himself is a better thing. Then life throws another curve ball in the form of Frankie Pennyworth when his family is killed and look out when Cal Roberts escapes with the murder of Pa on his mind.
John really comes into his own in this book in so many ways. He isn't his brother but he shows his true heart, his faith, his love, and his loyalty are so much more important than a great brain. Probably the best book in the series for showing how much a person's character defines him.
