School is in session

And I'm so thrilled to report a wonderful first day!!! After the last few weeks of trying to get the boys to do just a bit here and there to keep their brains crisp and having that take all day, I was almost in despair as I thought of what this day would bring.

BUT, they came out of the gate running and rearing to go.

Christopher dove into ancient history in the land of Sumer and enjoyed learning about Ziggurats at his new desk. (Which he even kept cleaned and organized to my supreme delight!)

Matthew went exploring ancient ecosystems and was thrilled to be able to open his 4th grade math book at long last (mean mommy told him he had to wait until the beginning of the school year). He was thrilled to finish his friendly letter composition and put that in the mail. I think he'll be waiting at the mailbox for the postman every day until he gets a response.


Jonathan was not about to be outdone by his brothers and was easy to intice into doing some "real" schoolwork. We did some easy workbooks for fun and snuck in some math with the abbacus. I'm hoping that in the days to come, things settle down a bit more with less computer problems taking up my time so we can really start working on his reading. He's ready but just needs some encouragement.

Nicholas was even a dream and took a two hour nap in the morning and was in a great mood all afternoon. It's always a good day when mommy lets him pull out every toy he owns! His new trick for the day is a constant cry of 'mama' when he's upset. He means it too as he was just telling daddy all about it and was happy and smiling as soon as daddy brought him in to me. Trying to melt my heart again (and succeeding as always).




So a few little missteps with chores but all their schoolwork was done long enough before dinner for them to have some down time in front of their monitor of choice. I have hope that this will be the start of a truly wonderful year with my new 7th grader, 3rd grader, and now my little Kindergartner.

And all overseen by the 'master' of the house, of course ;)
